My Nanie's Awa
TUNE: There are few good fellows when Jamie's awa
1.
Now in her green mantle blythe Nature arrays,
And listens the lambkins that bleat o'er the braes,
While birds warble welcomes in ilka green shaw,
But to me it's the delightless - my Nansie's awa.
2.
The snawdrap and primrose our woodlands adorn,
And violets bathe in the weet o' the morn.
They pain my sad bosom, sae sweetly they blaw:
They mind me o' Nanie - and Nanie's awa.
3.
Thou lav'rock, that springs frae the dews of the lawn
The shepherd to warn o' the grey-breaking dawn,
And thou mellow mavis, that hails the night-fa,
Give over for pity - my Nanie's awa.
4.
Come Autumn, sae pensive in yellow and grey,
And soothe me wi' tidings o' Nature's decay!
The dark, dreary Winter and wild-driving snaw
Alane can delight me - now Nanie's awa.

My Nanie's Away
(There are few good fellows when Jamie is away)
Now in her green mantle blythe Nature arrays,
And listens the lambs that bleat over the hill-sides,
While birds warble welcomes in every green wood,
But to me it is without delight - my Nansie is away.
The snowdrop and primrose our woodlands adorn,
And violets bathe in the wet of the morning (dew).
They pain my sad bosom, so sweetly they blow:
They remind me of Nanie - and Nanie is away.
You lark, that springs from the dews of the lawn
The shepherd to warn of the grey-breaking dawn,
And you mellow mavis, that hails the night-fall,
Give over for pity - my Nanie is away.
Come Autumn, so pensive in yellow and grey,
And soothe me with tidings of Nature's decay!
The dark, dreary Winter and wild-driving snow
Alone can delight me - now Nanie is away.
