Here's His Health In Water

TUNE: The job of journey work

Burns Original

Standard English Translation

Here's His Health In Water

1.
Altho' my back be at the wa',
And tho' he be the fautor,
Altho' my back be at the wa',
Yet here's his health in water!
O, wae gae by his wanton sides,
Sae brawly's he could flatter!
Till for his sake I'm slighted sair
And dree the kintra clatter!
But tho' my back be at the wa',
Yet here's his health in water!

Here Is His Health In Water

Although my back be at the wall,
And though he be the transgressor,
Although my back be at the wall,
Yet here is his health in water!
O, woe go by his wanton sides,
So finely as he could flatter!
Till for his sake I am slighted sore
And endure the countryside talk (about me)!
But though my back be at the wall,
Yet here is his health in water!
