The
"Nobel and Ancient Society of Hibernian Haggis Hunters" is an intrepid,
highly secretive group of employees & associates of the internationally
famous "Nobel's Explosive Company" founded by Sir Alfred Nobel.
The underground organisation (which abbreviates to
) operates worldwide and has compiled a series of "Odes to The Haggis"
uncovered only through diligent research by the team here at The World Burns
Club. In exposing this group to our fellow Burnsians throughout the world,
we have taken great risks in publishing this material and fear incurring the
wrath of this subversive organisation. So if we dissapear
you'll
know why !!!
Over the coming weeks we will publish articles which have come into our possession. Alas , for reasons of their safety, we are unable to disclose our sources
The book begins with the following very formal introduction.
ODES
TO THE HAGGIS
By
THE
HAGGIS HUNTERS.
"This
little booklet is dedicated to those intrepid Haggis Hunters who have braved
the Muse of Poesie to declare their loyalty to and appreciation of the Society
to which they have the honour to belong.
Naturally the allusions in these masterpieces can only be understood by those
who have the honour to belong to the
NOBEL AND ANCIENT SOCIETY OF HIBERNIAN HAGGIS HUNTERS"
"Indeed they were written to be seen only by the eyes of Hunters. All those who have contributed to this booklet have been honoured by the Ancient Council by having bestowed upon them the title of:-
POEATA LAUREATUR (CUM HONORIBUS) of the NOBEL AND ANCIENT SOCIETY OF HIBERNIAN HAGGIS HUNTERS, which honour entitles them to use the accolade:- NASHHH PLaur (Hons) after their names. We have it on good authority that there are around 1500 such members who covet members
It is
to be hoped that the works of art contained within these pages will give to
all Hunters of the Society an encapsulated insight into the workings and achievements
of their honoured Society and encourage them to strive towards the achievement
of this accolade for themselves."
In introducing this precious gift to the world of classical literature I am
proud to prefix it by the immortal words of our Hunting Cry.

The work of the
group is further explained as follows :-
THE CLASSICAL HAGGIS
"The odes are those that have been, either handed down from mythology or declare the nature of the SPECIE SCOTISORIUM from whom all other specie have evolved.
The pride of place in this section naturally goes to Scotland's National Poet. RABBIE BURNS who was the first to recognise the true poetic value of the SPECIE HAGGISI SCOTISORIUM and whose immortal memory is commemorated each year on the 25th. January, his birthday, in recognition of his contribution to the Celtic Culture and at which event his masterly Ode is invariable read with due awe and solemnity.
It is, however, suggested that only those expert in the language of Burns attempt to understand this epic and Hunters are advised to skip this and proceed to the first contribution by Hunter McDowell which is somewhat easier to understand"
